Excerpt:

Standing, she smoothed her hands down her pants and flipped her hair. She had planned to quietly finish her work and leave without seeing him again. No such luck. And no hiding that she was heading his way when her heels clicked along the concrete floor.

Well.

The kiss had happened. The button incident had happened. There was no taking it back. Regardless of how either of them felt about it, she was going to continue working here. So. She would deal with the here and now.

Since the sun was shining, Eli’s lair was welcome instead of foreboding. No fire cracked in the hearth today. Also unlike his usual, he wasn’t at his desk. He was at the printer.

“This yours?” He offered a sheet of paper.

“Yes.” She couldn’t keep from explaining. “Pressed the Print button by accident.”

Mi printer es su printer.”

Isa accepted the document and Eli sank his hands into his jeans pockets, his forearms flexing with the movement.

“I wasn’t—”

“I shouldn’t—” they said at the same time.

He pursed his lips and she looked at her shoes. “Go ahead.” She was going to say, I wasn’t offended when you kissed me, but now that she’d had a millisecond to think it through, maybe she should pretend the kiss hadn’t happened. Which was . . . impossible. Standing this close to him, it’s all she could think about.

“I shouldn’t have ruined your shirt,” he said.

“I dared you to.”

“Why?” His eyebrows compressed along with his lips.

“Because you have accepted the role of beast, but I don’t believe that’s who you are.” She let her gaze linger on his face before tracking down his body. “And because I like a challenge.”

“Do you?” He took a wide step toward her.

She matched his move and took one step closer to him. “Yes. I don’t wilt easily.”

He threaded her hair between his fingers, a look of longing and hurt mingling in his eyes. “I was about to lie and say I shouldn’t have kissed you.”

Shivers climbed her spine as she remembered how firm his lips felt against hers. “Maybe . . . you shouldn’t have stopped.”

My Review:

Holy Crapoly, did I LOVE this book! This was my first Jessica Lemmon book and I am just kicking myself for not reading her sooner. The easy flow of her writing style sucked me in right away. Reading her words felt like I was snuggling up on the couch with my favorite blanket and a mug of hot chocolate. Instant comfort! Even though this is the third book in series, this book can absolutely be read as a standalone. I didn’t have any trouble keeping up when previous characters and story lines were brought up. That being said, I do want to go back and read the previous two books now.

Eli Crane is back home in Chicago from his most recent tour of duty, to run help run his families hotel empire, Crane Hotels with his brothers Reese and Tag. Since coming back from the Middle East, Eli has gained the reputation for being a difficult person to get along with to say the least. He has already gone though many personal assistant that he has purposely scared off, until he meets Isabella. Isa is able to see though Eli’s BS right away and isn’t scared off my his gruff exterior. Eli notices right away that Isa is tenacious, stubborn, and very strong.

I loved being able to have a front row seat to watching Eli change and grow and how his and Isa’s relationship developed from working, to friends, and then to lovers. They really had the time to really get to know each others deepest and darkest parts of themselves. I also loved the family aspect to this story. No matter how hard Eli tried to push his family away, they kept rallying around him tried to make his transition to civilian life as smooth as possible.

I can’t recommend this book or author enough. I can’t wait to block out some time to binge read all of Jessica Lemmon’s back list. I already know I’m going to have a blast meeting all of her different characters. I am so happy to have a new to me, favorite aut0-buy author!

XOXO,

EXCERPT:

“Have you flown before, Kat?”

“No.” I swallow hard and tighten my hands into fists.

“Okay, take a deep breath,” he says. He’s not touching me, which is good because I’d have to break his nose, and this is already stressful enough. But his voice is soothing. “Good. Take another one. Miss, can we get a bottle of water, please?”

I just keep breathing. The flight attendant returns with a little baby bottle of water, which Mac uncaps and holds out for me.

“Take a drink of this. Just a small sip.” I comply, the cold water feeling good on my throat. I feel ridiculous. This flight is full of people who are not having panic attacks.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper. “This is my biggest fear.”

“I can tell,” he says gently, and I raise my gaze to meet his. He’s a handsome guy, his short hair styled nicely, his jaw firm, eyes direct. He’s tall, with long arms and legs and a lean body. “How are you feeling?

“Better,” I reply, surprised to find it true. “The water helped. Thank you.”

“No problem. Are you going to Napa Valley on vacation?”

“Work,” I reply, shaking my head. “I’m attending a conference.”

“So you’re a wine enthusiast then?”

“You could say that,” I reply with a smile. “I own a wine bar in Portland.”

His eyes narrow for just a moment. “Really? Which one?”

“The one inside Seduction.”
“I’ve heard great things about that place.”

I smile widely now, intensely proud of the restaurant that my four friends and I have built from the ground up. Seduction is our baby, our pride and joy.

“That’s nice to hear,” I reply. “You’ve never been?”

“Not yet, but I’ll make a point to go the next time I’m in the area.”

So he doesn’t live in Portland.

Bummer. Mac is one guy I wouldn’t mind running into again.

To say that I loved this book is an understatement. I read this whole book cover to cover in one sitting. It’s rare that I get the chance to do that or that a book sucks me in that deeply. BLUSH FOR ME is the third installment in the Seduction series, but can definitely be read as a standalone.

Kat Meyers is one of the co-owners of the wildly popular Seduction restaurant & bar with four of her best friends, in Portland, Oregon. Each one of the women has something special to bring to this place. Kat’s specialty is having a special knack for wine and other drinks. But wine especially. While traveling to a week long wine convention in California, Kat meets Mac.

Mac is intrigued by Kat from the first moment that he lays eyes on her. She doesn’t look like the other women he usually dates. Kat has a sleeve tattoo, is a natural red, dresses in the rockabilly clothing style, and doesn’t take shit from anybody. I loved how strong and confident she is and how she’d like to be in a relationship, but isn’t will to compromise herself for any man. Mac is bossy alpha who just wants to take care of Kat, take some of the weight off of her shoulders. He’s sweet, funny, caring, and romantic. I just loved their relationship and how it progressed. It started off as one thing and ended up being another.

Over all this was another amazing read by Kristen Proby. She never disappoints in delivering the funny, sexy, and feels. She will easily be one of my all time favorite authors for a long time to come and I can’t wait until the next book in this series is released.

xoxo,

-M

In the New York Times bestselling tradition of Jennifer Ryan, Maisey Yates, and B. J. Daniels comes the first book in Sara Richardson’s western contemporary romance series about bull-riding brothers.

NEVER FALL IN LOVE WITH A COWBOY

Jessa Mae Love is done with relationships. No matter how tempting he might be, she cannot—will not—fall for a man like Lance Cortez. The outrageously handsome cowboy is practically a living legend in Colorado, as famous for riding bulls as he is for breaking hearts. What would a big-time rodeo star like him see in a small-town veterinarian who wears glasses, rescues animals, and cries when watching rom-coms? Turns out, plenty.

Raising bulls, riding the circuit, and looking after his ailing father—Lance never stands still for long. Yet Jessa catches his attention, and the more she tries to resist him, the more he wants her. When she agrees to move to the ranch to keep an eye on Lance’s dad, Jessa tells him they have to keep it professional: no flirting, no sweet talk, and definitely no kissing. But with Jessa now living under his roof, that’s easier said than done . . .

Excerpt

Holding her breath, she stood perfectly still and quiet—minus the loud drumbeat of her heart.

The knocking didn’t stop.

“Hello?” A man’s deep rumbling voice sent her heart off to the races again. There was something vaguely familiar about it . . .

“It’s Lance Cortez. I need to talk to you.”

Lance! Oh. Holy. No. This was not happening. She gazed longingly at the other side of the living room to the safe darkness of the tiny hallway that led to her bedroom. There was no way she’d get through there without him seeing something. Like her ass, maybe.

Get the front door with the windows, the ignorant Home Depot salesman had advised. It’ll let in the most light. Yes, and now it would also give Lance a clear view of a very full moon.

She flattened her body against the cabinets, craning her neck, and sure enough, he stood right there on her front porch, now peering through that lovely window on the door. Oh, god. Her lungs heaved so hard it felt like the Bold Lift Bra was about to bust at the seams. Calm down, she in-

structed herself. He’ll go away. He had to go away.

“Jessa! I know you’re in there. Your car’s here,” he called again, rapping the door with that big manly fist of his. “I need to talk to you. It’s an emergency.”

Tell me about it! Maybe she could call 9-1-1 and have him escorted off her porch . . .

Footsteps thudded on the front porch, moving closer.

Sweet lord! Lance Cortez was peeking through the bay window!

“Hang on a sec!” she yelled, then hit the deck, pressing her body against the wood floor. Lifting her head, she as- sessed the distance to the hallway. It might as well have been twenty miles.

Okay. Think. What would Naomi do? That was an easy one. She never would’ve gotten herself into this situation in the first place because Naomi had the ability to get dressed without the assistance of coffee.

“Jessa, I really need a word,” Lance called again.

“Be there in a minute!” Despite the fact that she was basi- cally naked, sweat itched on her back. Her room. She had to get to her room. And there was only one way. She’d have to army crawl. As long as she stayed on this side of the couch, Lance probably wouldn’t be able to see her from the win- dow. It was risky, but what other option did she have? He obviously wasn’t going away.

Here goes. Trying to remain one with the floor, she squirmed forward, shimmying past the bookshelf. Squirm, pull, squirm, pull. She edged against the couch, bare skin grazing the cold wood planks.

Yes. Yes! It was working. Almost halfway now . . .

A scratch stung her hip as something sharp caught the delicate strap of her thong.

Uh oh. Contorting her body, she tried to get a better look. A loose staple from the re-upholstery job she’d done on the couch had hooked her adorable brand-new panties. Cam it! She should’ve known a staple gun wasn’t enough hold a couch cover together. Thanks a lot, Pinterest.

“Jessa!” More pounding.

“Hold on! Give me a minute!” she called, trying to wring the panic from her tone. What the hell was his problem, any- way? Couldn’t he take a hint? She pushed onto her side to free herself from the staple, but her legs smacked into the end table. The whole thing toppled over with a deafening crash. Ow! Shit! She rolled over, gripping the backs of her calves. At the same time, the thong stretched, ripped, and snapped, falling to the floor underneath her.

“Jessa?” Lance yelled through the door. “What was that?” The doorknob clanged like he was trying to get in. “Is every- thing okay?”

Hot tears filled her eyes. “Fine!” Minus the throbbing in her legs and the fact that she’d just shredded a fifty-dollar thong.

“Are you sure?” he persisted, the sonofabitch. “That sounded bad. Is the key still out here?”

The key? Oh, dear god, the key! Her dad had always left a house key underneath the flowerpot . . .

A new wave of terror surged, blinding her with white-hot fear.

The sound of metal clanged in the lock.

“No!” She squealed, scrambling to hide herself behind a small square throw pillow from the couch. “Please! Don’t come—”

The door sprang open.

Right as Lance stepped around the couch, she shifted the pillow to cover her lower hemisphere.

“What’re you—?” He halted like he’d been shot, his gaze bouncing from her eyes to her bra and then, sure enough, down to the pillow.

“Turn around! Cover your eyes,” she wailed. For the love of god! Humiliation curdled into anger. “Why’d you have to come in? Who just barges into someone’s house, huh?” Why couldn’t he have waited on the porch like she’d asked?

“Uh . . . ” He seemed to be frozen in place. “Sorry. I heard the crash. Thought you were hurt . . .”

Was he gawking? His lips had parted with surprise. And then there were his eyes. Wide and unblinking. Men didn’t usually look at her like that . . .

“What the hell happened?” he asked, finally finding the decency to turn around and stare out the bay window.

Securing the pillow against her lower abdomen with one hand, she covered her Boldly Lifted chest with her arm in case he decided to peek again. “I had a bit of an accident.” She should make something up. Something really exciting. Something like she and a mystery man were playing this kinky game . . .

“Are you hurt?” Lance asked, his head swiveling toward her again.

She kept herself covered. Oh, yes. She was hurt. On more than one level. “I’m fi e,” she choked out. “Can you get my robe? It’s hanging up in the bathroom at the end of the hall.”

“Right. Your robe.” He sort of side-shuffled his way down the hall and back, before tossing the robe at her without turn- ing around.

Clutching her salvation, she scurried up to a standing po- sition, the backs of her calves still aching, and wrapped the fabric around her, tying the belt securely at her waist.

Lance peeked over his shoulder as if to check on her, then turned all the way around.

She wasn’t sure if she was out of breath due to the terrible thong ordeal or to the fact that the elusive Lance Cortez looked so different up close. She’s seen him around town since she’d been back, but she’d never looked at him that closely. He’d never looked at her the way he was now, either.  Eyes open slightly wider than a normal person’s, lips parted like he couldn’t remember what it was he’d wanted to say.

Yes, well, neither could she. Not with the sight of his dark hair, which curled slightly at the edges. It was mussed like he’d been nervously running his hand through it all morning. And those eyes. An arctic blue-gray. Cutting. He wore a dark red flannel shirt with the sleeves pushed up over his bulky forearms. His jeans were faded and worn like he worked hard, which she’d heard he did.

“So . . .” His voice had this deep soothing reverberation that made her want to curl up against him. “Did you fall or something?”

Or something. “I was in the kitchen making coffee,” she informed him, trying to smooth her hair into soft waves like it had been before she’d gone to battle with the couch. “Wasn’t expecting anyone to show up at my door . . . ” Espe- cially the enigma that was Lance Cortez. “So I panicked and was trying to get back to my room without giving you a show.” Which was clearly too much to ask from the uni- verse.

“Oh.” His gaze seemed to fixate on the leopard-print thong that lay a mere two feet from his boots.

As swiftly as possible, she swiped it off the floor and shoved it into the pocket of her robe. “Um. Did you need something, Lance?” Because her humiliation meter was about tapped out for the day and it wasn’t even seven o’clock.

My Review

1456705692939

This was my first Sara Richardson book and it definitely didn’t disappoint in the least. I have to admit that I’m always not a fan of the Western romance/Cowboy hero trope, but I really enjoyed this book. Hometown Cowboy is the first installment in the Rocky Mountain Riders series and provides a solid opening to this new world.

I love the scenic setting of Topaz Falls, Colorado. Small town romances are one of my weakness, so this whole series ticks off a major box on things I love about reading romance. The cast of characters are sweet, warm, & charming as cherry pie. We first meet Jessa Mae Love, a vet as she’s made the decision to be done with dating and relationships after a crappy breakup. First being a HUGE animal lover, I loved reading about a heroine with a huge heart for animals. Lance Cortez is Jessa’s cocky, sexy love interest who happens to be a heartbreaking famous rodeo star. Once the two of them cross paths, sparks fly.

I also loved how Jessa and Lance help each other get over their emotional barriers from their childhood, so that they could be together in the present. I’m very excited to read about the secondary characters in this series because I just can’t get enough for Topaz Falls. If you’re a fan of Jill Shalvis or Susan Mallery, then you need to add Sara Richardson to your TBR right away.

XOXO,

M

My Review

TBB

This was one of my most anticipated books of 2017 and I am SO happy that I had a chance to get an early copy. I love anything that Jennifer Probst writes, but I particularly love this Billionaire Builders series. It’s full of family, real emotion, sexy times, and full of witty one liners. I found myself highlighting so many passages of this book because the writing is so beautiful. Just when I thought that this series couldn’t get any better, I was easily proven  wrong.

Since the first book left off with me wanting to know more about Raven’s past and her connection to the Pierce family. I loved watching all of the many layers of both Raven and Dalton being pulled back so that they realized just exactly how much they have in common and how alike they really are. I also really loved the slow burn of their relationship and the electric chemistry you could feel between them. Basically read this book because I don’t want to give away any spoilers since this is the second installment in this series. And I would recommend reading EVERYWHERE AND EVERY WAY first.

I really hope that this series never ends because it is Jen’s best work yet. I’m in love with all of her bitey, growly, alpha men that make up the Pierce brothers and I am now waiting with baited breath for Tristan’s story! You literally can’t just pick one man to love, you have to love them ALL! Hurry up, July!!

About Hit The Spot

Is this love or just a game?

Tori Rivera thinks Jamie McCade is rude, arrogant, and worst of all . . . the sexiest man she’s ever laid eyes on. His reputation as a player is almost as legendary as his surfing skills. No matter how her body heats up when he’s around, she’s determined not to be another meaningless hookup.

Jamie McCade always gets what he wants. The sickest wave. The hottest women. And Tori, with her long legs and smart mouth, is definitely the hottest one. He knows Tori wants him—hell, most women do—but she won’t admit it. After months of chasing and one unforgettable kiss, it’s time for Jamie to raise the stakes.

Jamie promises that soon Tori won’t just want him in her bed, she’ll be begging for it-and he might be right. Somehow he’s found the spot in her heart that makes her open up like never before. But with all she knows about his past, can she really trust what’s happening between them? Is Jamie playing for keeps or just playing to win?

My Review

1455058563923

Holy wow! I flew through this book in two days (this is not a short book) and had so much fun reading it. It’s full of fun sugary sweet, and sassy sexy fun! The chemistry between Jamie and Tori was off the charts hot. I LOVED it! Their flirting was what made this book such a joy to read.

Even though we met Jamie and Tori in the first installment in the Dirty Deeds series, FOUR LETTER WORD, we didn’t know too much about their backstory. We knew that they had a mutual attraction to each other, but tori was always acting like she couldn’t stand to be breathing the same air as Jamie. So I really appreciated that the prologue of this book went back to the first time that they met.

It took me awhile to warm up to Jamie because of some of the things that he says to Tori. He definitely has it in him to be a bit of an alpha asshole, which can also be some of the appeal to him. But once Jamie showed his other sweet and softer side, I couldn’t help but fall for him right along with Tori.

This book can be read as a standalone, but does feature appearances from the previous couple in the series. Overall, if you’re looking for a steamy, funny, flirty, and sweet read then HIT THE SPOT is the book for you.

Until next time,

xoxo, M

It’s Christmas Eve and Rory Andrews is desperate to get home to the family she hasn’t seen in years. Problem is, her only ride to Lake Tahoe comes in the form of the annoyingly handsome Max Stranton, and his big, goofy, lovable dog Carl.

Hours stuck in a truck with the dead sexy Max sounds like a fate worse than death (not), but Rory’s out of options. She’s had a crush on Max since high school and she knows he’s attracted to her, too. But they have history… and Max is the only one who knows why it went south.

They’ve done a good job of ignoring their chemistry so far, but a long road trip in a massive blizzard might be just what they need to face their past… and one steamy, snowy night is all it takes to bring Max and Rory together at last.

EXCERPT:

Christmas Eve had the nerve to show up just like it did every year: way too quickly and with ridiculous fanfare.

The nerve.

Rory Andrews stood in the courtyard of the Pacific Pier Building in San Francisco, surrounded by sparkly holiday lights and enough garlands to give the place its own ozone, and told herself things could be worse.

She just wasn’t sure how.

It was the unknown, she decided. Because this year, unlike the past six, she’d be spending Christmas with her family, a thought that caused a swarm of butterflies to take flight in her belly.

Not an uncommon feeling since she’d turned twenty-three a few months back and decided it was time to become a person she could be proud of if it killed her. And given the guy leaning against one of the lamp poles clearly waiting for her, arms crossed, frown in place, it just might.

Max Stranton. At his side sat Carl, his huge, eternally hungry, adorable Doberman.

“No,” she said, not to Carl but to Carl’s owner. Who was not lovable. “No way.”

As always when their gazes locked, Max’s was a disconcerting mix of heat and…something else that she couldn’t quite figure out, as he was good at hiding when he wanted to be. She never quite knew how to take the heat because it seemed reluctant. He was attracted to her but didn’t want to be.

Ditto. He made her knees wobble. And also a couple of other inner reactions that shouldn’t be happening in public.

“Merry Christmas to you too, Rory,” he said, and damn. It wasn’t just his eyes. His voice was rough and sexy, and for that matter, so was the rest of him.

He worked for an investigations and security firm in the building. Basically he and the rest of his team were fixers and finders for hire. To say that Max was good at his job was an understatement. He stood there looking like sex on a stick with a duffle bag slung over a broad shoulder, his dark hair two weeks past needing a cut, and the icy wind of an incoming storm plastering his clothes to a body that could be registered as a lethal weapon.

“What are you doing here?” she asked calmly even if her heart was anything but, pounding all the way up to her throat and ears because she knew. She knew exactly why he was here. “I don’t need a ride home.”

A flash of wry humor slid in with all that sizzling heat. “Because you’d rather take two buses and a train than get into my truck with me?” he asked.

Well yes, actually.

My Review

Hearts

It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE Jill Shalvis fan and love any and everything that she writes. I especially love her little in between the numbers novellas with her series they give you a look into minor side characters lives that you’ve always been wondering about. You also get a little something to tide you over until the next full length book is released. Also, if you’ve ever been curious about Jill’s funny, witty, and heartfelt writing, one of her novellas is a good place to jump in and try her out. They’re also read great as a complete standalone as her series are more about interconnected characters in the same town.

This story follows Rory and Max who are headed home to Tahoe on Christmas Eve and become unexpectedly stranded in the horrible weather. I loved this book because the pacing was perfect and and it also had just the right amount of steam and heart. This might just be a short story, but I felt that I really got to know Rory and Max as people and why they care for each other so deeply. The evolution of their relationship never felt rushed. This was easily another 5 cubes of sugar rating for me and I can’t wait to see what happens next in the Heartbreaker Bay series.

 Until Next Time

My Review

I’ve always loved how easy it is to get into a Marie Harte book. And even if you’ve never read her McCauley Series, a new reader would have no problem jumping feet first into this world with the Donnigans. But the thing that I loved most about this book was how interconnected the McCauley’s, Bad Boy Body Shop, and Donnigan series are. It’s so nice to see other characters popping up to make cameos, or hearing about how a favorite couple is doing. Totally warms my heart. These books all have a small town feel without feeling like you’re jumping into the middle of a 15 book series and being lost because you didn’t start at the beginning.

I have been patiently   waiting to hear about the Donnigan family who just happen to be the McCauley’s cousins. I am beyond happy to be back in this world that takes place in Seattle and the cozy Queen Anne neighborhood. I absolutely LOVED Landon and Ava! These have to be two of the most fleshed out romance characters that I’ve read in a long time. Maybe, EVER! And this book was laugh out loud funny! I was hoping that people couldn’t hear me snort laughing in my car while I was reading during my lunch breaks.

Landon Donnigan is one of the most complex alpha characters that I’ve read and it just made me love him even more. He’s type A. bossy, smart, quick on his feet with a comeback, protective, sweet, and sexy. Landon is recently out of the military and adjusting to civilian life. He’s been casually dating, but hasn’t found a woman that he really wants to spend time with until he meets Ava at the gym. When they first meet, they have serious burn your e-reader to ashes chemistry. I’m still fanning myself. Dr. Ava Rosenthal is a clinical psychologist who is a woman I could easily be best friends with. She’s sarcastic, snarky, intelligent, independent, witty, and sassy.

Landon and Ava together are serious real life relationship goals. Their witty back and forth banter is what dreams are made of. I love how much they were able to have fun with each other in and out of bed. And how much they actually truly got to know each other. Nothing was implied, you felt like you were getting to know them as individuals and as a couple. I really enjoyed how this book wasn’t just about Landon and Ava, but also the supporting cast of characters as well. Both of their families play major rolls in their lives, and you can tell that how much they all love and care for each other. Even when they are annoyed and feel like punching someone in the gut. Elliot, Ava’s cousin and best friend has to be one of the best supporting characters in this book. He has some of the best one liners and had me cackling to myself like a crazy person.

“Oh? Want to bet on the size of his package? I saw you’re wrong about it being tiny. That man is totally rocking the hammock.”

“The what?”

He grinned. “The banana hammock? You know, his stretchy underwear to make room for all that…maleness.”

HA! The man could totally be on a character on Will & Grace! I’m holding Marie to writing a book for Elliot and his smexy love interest. I need and want! Have to have it! I also can’t wait to have the next books in this series. JUST THE THING isn’t out until July 4, 2017. *Sad jazz hands* Until then, I at least have the first two books in the Body Shop Bad Boys series to keep me occupied.

Even though this book wasn’t all about the sexy times with Landon and Ava, when we finally did get to them, they were complete FIRE. Just an amazing balance of dirty, sweet, and sexy. Really the whole book was a great balance between substance and sex, so I’m easily calling this now as my #1 favorite book of 2016. It really was just perfect. Between the fun, witty one-liners and how much Marie made it a point to show that it’s ok to seek out therapy and how normal it is, no matter how strong you are or are perceived to be. With each new book that she releases, her writing skills just become better and better. She will always be an auto-buy author for me.

So if you love Jill Shalvis and Tessa Bailey, then Marie Harte is a perfect combination of the two and she will end up becoming one of your favorite authors as well.

Until next time

About Her Halloween Treat

Trick…or wicked treat!

It was a devastating dirty trick—Joey Silvia just found out her boyfriend of two years is married. What. A. Dick. Joey knows her best chance to get over one guy is to get under another. Of course, heading home to her family’s remote cabin in Oregon poses some challenges in the “available men” department…until she discovers this cabin comes with its own hot handyman!

Holy crap, Chris Steffensen. When did her brother’s best friend turn into a hard-bodied pile of blond-bearded hotness? He’s the perfect Halloween treat—and a surprisingly dirty rebound guy. For a couple of weeks, anyway. Except that Chris has other ideas…like proving to Joey that this blast from the past is a whole lot more than a naughty Halloween hookup.

My Review

1474309796345

I’m warning you now, this review is basically going to be a mushy and possibly incoherent rambling love letter to Tiffany Reisz since she is currently the cause of the worst book hangover I’ve had in a while. This book has easily taken it’s rightful place as one of my all time favorite books that I can read over and over again without fail. It’s also on the list for my favorite books of 2016. As soon as I finished this book, I was ready to start it all over again because I’m not ready to leave this cozy world hidden behind Mount Hood in Oregon. I’m literally kicking myself for not reading her books sooner. Even though this is one of her shorter works coming in at 224 pages, I found myself putting off getting to the end of this book simply because I did not want to see it end.

From the beautiful Pacific Northwest setting, to the witty dialogue, and steamy intimate sex scenes, this book was just pure perfection. I’ve always wanted to visit the PNW, but from the way Ms. Reisz described the area, I’m ready to book a flight tomorrow!

“The scent- there was nothing like it. Clean, so clean- pure pine and fir and all so light and airy that if you didn’t stop to breathe in deeply enough you’d miss it. But if you did breathe in on a rainy, windy day you might just smell what the world smelled like right after it was born. The trees lay so thick on Mount Hood they looked like an oil painting with the paints piled in heavy layers of emerald and black.”

Ummmm, hello!? Are those not some of the most beautiful and magical words strung together in the English language? The way the scenery is so vividly and simply described just blows my mind. I immediately had a movie running through my head instead of the words on my iPad screen.

Every single character in this book was perfection and featured one of my favorite female friendships to date in Joey and Kira. The way they supported each other and kept each other laughing even when one of them was feeling down, is what the best friendships are made of. But Kira and her dirty mouth kept me laughing the most. I have so many fun passages highlighted between the two of them, but this one hands down has to be my favorite:

“You had mind-blowing sex with a hot handyman with a beard and you said, ‘Too bad it didn’t work’ after? Do you know there are over one million words in the English language? There are more words in English than there are in French and German combined. Any of those one million words would have been better than those words. You could have said, ‘I like bacon-powered ghost boat parades’, and it would have been a better sentence than that sentence you laid at the feet of that beautiful man and his majestic cock.”

“I didn’t say it was majestic. It’s a dick, not a bald eagle in flight. What I said was that his cock is ‘magnificent’. And…can I ask something? Did ‘bacon-powered ghost parades’ really come off the top of your head? Or are you on some sort of drug I need to know about?”

I swear, I sent a screen shot of this passage to every single one of my book girlfriends just so they could get a good snort cackle as well.

I also just absolutely loved the chemistry and connection between Joey and Chris. You could feel it instantly from their first interaction, but it never felt like insta-love. It felt pure, real, and genuine. Chris is the perfect mix of cocky alpha male, with a dose of side splitting sense of humor, and good looks. And did I mention his hands? Yes, he would have to be exceptionally good with his hands seeing as he is a handyman. But the thing I loved most about Chris was his soul and how ready he was to bear it to Joey, even when he knew it could end up hurting them both. *dreamy sigh*

“I’m loving you. Right now. This second. I love you. And I’m sorry it hurts you but guess what? It hurts me too.”

Gahhh shot straight to the heart!! Chris! *Heart eyes forever* Oh and don’t even get me started on the crazy hot sex scenes. Holy hell, does Tiffany Reisz know how to write them! I’ve always heard that she writes some of the best in the industry, but know I really know this to be true! I also really enjoyed the nod to the 80’s pop culture. Being a child of the 80’s who is completely obsessed with any and everything having to do with this magical and wonderful decade, I love all of the references. (Pretty sure I just aged myself, but oh well!)

So if I haven’t convinced you to pick up this book yet, what are you waiting for? I’m so ready to divert from my September TBR and read the next book in this series since I already have it in my possession. I just can’t wait to dive back into this lovely world. This was an amazing introduction to Tiffany Reisz  for me and I can’t recommend this book highly enough.

About Cream of the Crop

Manhattan’s It Girl, Natalie Grayson, has it all: she’s a hot exec at a leading advertising firm, known industry-wide for her challenging and edgy campaigns. She’s got a large circle of friends, a family that loves her dearly, and her dance card is always full with handsome eligible bachelors. What else could a modern gal-about-town wish for? The answer, of course, is…cheese.

Natalie’s favorite part of each week is spending Saturday morning at the Union Square Farmer’s Market, where she indulges her love of all things triple cream. Her favorite booth also indulges her love of all things handsome. Oscar Mendoza, owner of the Bailey Falls Creamery and purveyor of the finest artisanal cheeses the Hudson Valley has to offer, is tall, dark, mysterious, and a bit oblivious. Or so she thinks. But that doesn’t stop Natalie from fantasizing about the size of his, ahem, milk can.

Romance is churning, passion is burning, and something incredible is rising to the top. Could it be…love?

My Review

1463419018424

I just ADORED this book! I have completely fallen in love with Alice Clayton’s writing. It’s witty, full of steam, heart, tons of feels and plenty of laugh out loud moments. It was definitely hard to read this book in public without snort laughing from all of the hilarious lines in this book. This series would translate perfectly onto the small screen for a weekly TV series. Every character is fleshed out so well. Along with the beautiful backdrop of Bailey Falls in upstate New York, I have fallen head over heels for this series.

Natalie Grayson is one of the funniest and realest potty mouth characters that I have come across in a long time. I have a huge girl crush on her. She is everything that you want to be when you grow up. She exudes confidence and is charismatic, intelligent, sweet, and absolutely hilarious. The girl is a complete riot! Natalie is the queen of double entendre. She is the type of person who would easily become your best friend because of how down to earth her personality is while also being the a classy and glam fashionista. I constantly found myself googling different pieces in her wardrobe while reading. I absolutely love it when an author gets descriptive with their characters clothing, it just bring the story to life in my head even more. Even though Natalie is confident in almost every area of her life, she still has doubts and fears about being in a long term relationship.

Oscar Mendoza is the local dairy farmer who is a mysterious and brooding yummy alpha. We saw glimpses of Oscar in the previous novel, but never knew too much about him besides his amazing cheese making abilities and the ability to render chatty Cathy, Natalie speechless. The man is a panty dropper of the finest form. He’s sweet, sexy, smart, loyal, and an all around good guy. Oh, and it also doesn’t hurt that happens to be an excellent dirty talker.

It was so much fun to watch the scorching chemistry between Natalie and Oscar. Their relationship never felt forced and flowed seamlessly. Even when they would just say a few words to each other, you could still feel the heat between them. I also appreciated how in most respects Natalie and Oscar were total opposites, but they were still able to find a lot of common ground besides just being physically attracted to each other. And sure, this book is categorized as romance, but I felt that it went deeper than that because of the characters and how it went about handling the major plot conflict. It didn’t feel like it was trivial or predictable. It was refreshing to not see a trope that has been used many times and ended up in the same way, minus the happily ever after of course.

Now I’m waiting with baited breath for the next book in this series! But luckily I have Alice’s WHOLE backlist to keep me occupied with her amazing writing style.

My Review

1463419018424

To say that I loved this book is a gross understatement. I absolutely and utterly adored this book. I had the biggest smile on my face and in my heart while reading this book. This book has already jumped into my top 3 favorite books of 2016 and has hit my all time favorites list. I’ve read a lot of Jill Shalvis books over the years, but I think this is by far her best book ever.

This book is everything that you would want in a romantic comedy; Amazing sexual tension and chemistry, hilarious laugh out loud moments, and a warm sense of family, forgiveness and community all wrapped up in 384 pages of goodness. From one of the fist interactions between Finn & Pru, I could see and feel their intense chemistry coming off the screen of my iPad.

All of which was fascinating, but not nearly as fascinating as Finn himself, which meant that her eyes, the traitors, swiveled right back to him. He pointed at her.

“Me?” she asked, even though he couldn’t possibly hear her from across the place. With barely there smile, he gave her a finger crook. Yep. Her.

If you’ve ever read a Jill Shalvis book before, then you know her supporting cast of characters are just as colorful and interesting as the main characters. And this cast of characters are just wonderful. I love how even though Pru is new to the San Francisco area, Finn’s friends are more than eager to have her join their group of friends and immediately love her as if she has been with them for years. I especially love the female friendships in this book and how supportive they are of one another. The sense of community in this cozy neighborhood within San Francisco makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. It makes me want to move there and hang out in O’Riley’s Pub and play darts with the whole gang. Their sense of humor and witty one liners kept me laughing.

“Maybe he hasn’t shaved,” Willa said. “That’d keep me from dropping trou. I only shaved from my knees down. My things are as hairy as a lumberjack’s chest, which is why I’m wearing capris and not short shorts. You are all welcome.”

I also loved Pru’s character and how tough and tenacious she was. She had been through a lot in life that led her to Finn and this point in her life, but she still was a happy person and open and giving and willing to bring happiness to Finn no matter what. It was so refreshing to see a character that wasn’t jaded about life and everything that it can throw at you from time to time. And Finn is one of the sweetest, romantic, caring, understanding, and sexiest alpha’s book boyfriends that I have come across this year.

He wanted to claim her, wanted to leave his mark on her. On the inside. On her heart and in her soul.

This book and series is a great replacement for the Lucky Harbor series that fans have been sorely missing since it ended in 2014. I am beyond excited to read about the rest of the cast of characters in this series and I hope this will be a long lasting series for years to come.
